Throwback Mani: Cut Out Neon Heart

I totally forgot about this cut out neon heart mani I  did over a year ago which I had shared on my Instagram. I was reminded of it when I recently found out that it was featured on HelloGiggles for a Nails Of The Day feature. I guess I must have missed that post because I absolutely love browsing around on Hello Giggles! Anyways, I noticed a person commented and asked there how I achieved this look and that another person replied with a method but that actually wasn’t the way I personally achieved the cutout look.  Read below for details on how I achieved my cutout nails back then!

First, I applied a clear base. I then applied neon pink on the nails that wouldn’t have a cut out heart. I actually drew a heart outline with a nail art brush with the neon yellow polish I used on my thumb and accent finger. I  painted around the neon yellow outline as a guideline with the rest of the neon yellow. I then outlined the heart again with a black nail art pen. I did the rest of the nails by applying hot pink polish and then dotted with hair bobby pin straightened out. I can’t remember the exact colors I used but I am pretty sure I used the neons from the China Glaze Neon collection 2012. Please excuse the horribly dry cuticles and smeared outline. I don’t think I waited long enough before putting on topcoat! I think I should do this design again to compare my cut out skills now as opposed to over a year ago! And a bonus its a cute look appropriate now for summer!

Mani Monday: Throwback Comme des Garçons Mani

Back in March I participated in a monthly Nail Art Challenge on Instagram and I wanted to share my Comme des Garçons inspired mani that I did for Day 11. I’ve seen alot of people just do the popular Comme des Garçons heart on the tips before but I wanted to come up with something different. I got my inspiration from my brother who is always ahead of the fashion game and this Comme des Garçons long sleeve tee from Barneys.

I used Rimmel’s Black Satin, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Cherry Red for this design.

Mani Monday: Kusama for LV inspired Gradient Polka Dot feat Orly Luxe Coats

A great display window is one that makes you STOP and just STARE to take it all in. Last summer, I was so mesmerized by the Yayoi Kusama display windows in NYC for Louis Vuitton. They had these amazing installations like polka dot octopus tentacles! So here is my Kusama inspired nail art for today’s Mani Monday 🙂

So Orly was kind enough to send me their new Luxe Coat polishes recently and the colors just happen to be perfect for today’s mani-monday! I made a step by step photo tutorial on how to achieve this look featured here on BudgetBabe. I basically did a polka dot gradient method using “Red Hot” a very pretty and pigmented red for the base and dotted with “Mint Chip “a color that reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream and “Pretty in Pink” a very light pink. These new colors are FANTASTIC and the polishes are great especially for nail art because they apply smooth, dry quickly and extremely shiny!! The new bottle design with extended handle and nice brush is also great for fluid application!

I like organizing my nail polishes and doing a routine inventory because I can’t bear the thought of too many untrieds (or forgottens- as I call them) just sitting in there in the midst of my polishes. It also inspires me to come up with new nail art too.
And behold I totally forgot about the Covergirl Outlast nail polishes I bought when it first came out! So for my nails of the day- I picked out this pretty creme pink called “pink-finity” from Covergirl as a base and used Revlon’s “Silver Dollar” a metallic silver, Revlon’s “Ocean” a metallic teal, and Sally Hansen’s Insta Dri “Pronto Purple” a metallic purple for polka dotting.

Have you found any favorites in your  forgottens or untrieds? ~xoxo B

Kate Spade Newsprint Polka Dot Mani

My Nails of the Day- a fun polka dot mani inspired by Kate Spade Newsprint Dot:

I ended up using Essie’s Mint Candy Apple but I was torn between In the Cabana, Essie  Turquoise and Caicos, and First Timer. I think this mani is so versatile that it would look good in any bright color but I was in a minty green kind of mood.

Anyone that knows me, knows that not only do I love nail art- I also love my iphone and am always drawn to cute cases and wallpapers! The other day I stumbled upon this adorable Kate Spade Newsprint Polka Dot iphone case online and was so smitten! I always have a thing for polka dots and fun prints!

My friend Marsha was kind enough to make me a custom wallpaper for my iphone- I think it should hold me over til I get the case! Isn’t her wallpaper just adorable?! Love it!

Cath Kidston Floral Inspired Mani

First of all, I hope everyone had just as a fabulous Mother’s Day as I did- I truly feel so blessed and loved! Mothers deserve gratitude and appreciation everyday but it’s nice to have a whole day to celebrate and honor moms everywhere!

I received the most beautiful floral bouquet this morning from my toddler and husband- and just got literally lost in the beautiful flowers. Pretty things inspire me so I made this out of a picture I took of my flowers for my mommy friends. . .

Image

I just really admire flowers in general- Mother Nature is truly the best artist- and I frequently find myself doing different floral prints and designs for nail art.

A little while ago I did a Cath Kidston floral print inspired mani based off this free wallpaper which I sized it for my ipad mini- photographed in the background of my nail pics.

You can download more lovely floral free wallpaper here at Cath Kidston. I did this design using no nail art tools or brushes. I simply used the nail polish brushes and a bobby pin straighten out for polka dotting. I actually chose not to use any of my nail art brushes to see how this would turn out because I was limited in time that day. I was happy how it came it out and hope this inspires you to try some floral on your nails!
