NOTD: As If! Dimepiece Crop Top Inspired

One of my all time favorite cult classic movies is Clueless– it’s one of those movies where I could watch over and over again while reciting the lines and giggling into a frenzy of silliness. . . I totally make references all the time in conversation with my close friends. In fact, we refer to my best friend as Clueliz which suits her perfectly because she is truly CLUELESS- but in a good way! But holey moley it’s hard to be believe its been 17 years since the movie first came out!! AS IF!

Nylon put together a great post featuring youtube vids of the top 5 best moments from Clueless. . .but I had to share a couple of my personal favorite quotes!

“He does dress better than I do, what would I bring to the relationship?” -Cher

“Sometimes you have to show a little skin. This reminds boys of being naked, and then they think of sex.” -Cher

“Why should I listen to you, anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.” -Tai

“That was way harsh, Tai.” – Cher

“ ’tis a far far better thing doing stuff for other people.” –Cher

“But it’s an ALIA!!!” -Cher

“Do you prefer “fashion victim” or “ensembly challenged”?” –Cher

“As if!” – Cher

“Whatever.” -Amber

HILARIOUS SCENE:

Tai: I could really use some sort of herbal refreshment.

Dionne: Oh, well we do lunch in ten minutes. We don’t have any tea, but we have Coke and stuff.

Tai: No shit. You guys got Coke here?

Dionne: Well, yeah.

Cher: Yeah, this is America.

So Dimepiece LA recently came out with this awesome rainbow gradient corp top as a homage to Clueless! Isnt it deliciously adorable?!

The colors and print of the crop top totally seemed perfect for a nail art design inspiration so here is what I came up with:

as if mani

It was a perfect opportunity to finally use my Color Club Poptastic Collection set of polish- which I have to add that I randomly found at TJMaxx for only $9!

color club setnames of polish

Here’s a couple pics I took of the bottles for a closer look at the colors in natural daylight. . . I didn’t have time to do an individual swatch of each color but Rebecca’s Likes Nails has perfectly applied beautiful and informative swatches of each color here. Out of all of the colors, I surprised myself in picking the Twiggie as my favorite. I am not a fan of green polish on me in general but Twiggie is a beautiful creme and unique shade of green that looks amazing on!

NOTD: My Floral Design for Refinery 29 Nail Art Nation

It’s already week 2 for Refinery 29 Nail Art Nation contest which I’m a finalist in and I can share my design now that its been posted! So week 2 challenge theme was to create a floral design using Revlon polishes they sent. I got my inspiration from a lovely vintage frame I saw with beautiful floral pattern when I was thrifting-which is another long time hobby of mine 🙂

floralfloral 2

For my floral design, I used the white from “Night & Degas” as a base to start off then hand painted flowers using “Pastel Pink”, the pink from “Pop Art”, “Ultra Violet”, and  the coral, “Pinkasso” accenting swirls and leaves with “Monet Monet” and the blue from “Pop Art” I dotted the bright yellow from “Monet Monet” and topped off with Revlon’s Matte top coat.

NOTD: My Geometric Design for Refinery 29 Nail Art Nation

So as you know I was honored to be one of the 18 finalists for Refinery 29 Nail Art Nation contest sponsored about Revlon. Now that they contest has officially been launched in July, I can release more details about what I had to do.

So the contest required 5 design submissions for each of the 5 challenges below. Each week in July will present all the finalists designs. . . All the designs had to be done in a week time frame last month.

The Challenges required that we use ONLY Revlon nail polishes
(which they sent all the finalists) to complete these challenges, and no nail stickers, decals, or glued-on accessories.

CHALLENGE #1: Graphics Use Revlon polishes to create bold geometric shapes, technically complex patterns, and stunning abstract art.

CHALLENGE #2: Summer Florals Grab your Revlon polishes and go abstract, pointillist, or basically anything that delivers the unexpected. This shouldn’t be your grandma’s floral print.

CHALLENGE #3: White-Hot Neon For this round, create arresting, original day or night looks using only  white and Revlon’s Nail Art Neon polishes — no blacks, no darks, no earth tones, and no excuses.

CHALLENGE #4: Black Tie Use Revlon polish to create innovative looks appropriate for weddings, New Year’s Eve bashes, or other black-tie events.

I found out last night that week one challenge geometric theme has already begun, so we can reveal our challenge #1 designs!

geometricgeomteric 2

For my abstract geometric design, I was inspired by the colors from my H&M dress. I used Revlon’s Post Modern  the nude pink as a base and Revlon’s Pinkasso the orange coral & Revlon’s Monet the teal light green for the alternating chevron style French tip and near base, topped off with accent triangles using Revlon’s Urban the dark royal blue. I decided to stick to something that showed off a nice geometric pattern that was also clean and visually pleasing to the eye.

NOTD: My attempt at Chalkboard Nails Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz & Tutorial

When I first saw Sarah from Chalkboard Nails “Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz” Mani I was instantly smitten with her beautiful combo of a gingham print and the glittery red accent nails! I’ve been a huge fan of Sarah for the longest time. Not only are her nail art designs are always so flawless and creative, she is always very nice and supportive to other nail art lovers. I actually wanted to attempt this particular design of hers when I first saw it on her blog last year but honestly was intimidated by the freehand gingham lines. My first attempt didn’t give her design any justice so I scrapped it and practiced free handing the gingham lines for a week and tadddaa! I’m pretty happy with the outcome!I This nail art is perfect for summer and picnics! This is just my rendition of her design. I made a quick photo step by step tutorial below. Hope it is helpful!

PS- Being ambidextrous is a bonus I can do both hands yay!

FYI I did a jelly sandwich to achieve my “ruby red slippers” accent nails. First applied a coat of the Sally Hansen’s Red Carpet and then a coat of Spoiled’s Ants in My Pants. Top it with another coat of Red Carpet to “sandwich” the glitters in. Here’s a couple closer looks of the polishes and also of my jelly mani accent nails. . .

NOTD: Stars n Stripes Forever!

Freedom’s natal day is here.
Fire the guns and shout for freedom,
See the flag above unfurled!
Hail the stars and stripes forever,
Dearest flag in all the world.
~Florence A. Jones

It’s 4th of July today which for us proud Americans means we celebrate our Independence Day with our loved ones and friends!! I  love our beautiful flag and everything it stand for: freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness 🙂 So did another patriotic mani for today! I also did a different look on a previous post which is a faster alternative to have some red and white and blue here.

4thofjuly

To achieve this look:

  1. Prepare nails with a base coat. Apply Sally Hansen Xtreme White On on thumb, middle finger and pinky- or the nails you wanna do striping.
  2. I did a glitter accent nail using one coat of Revlon Silver Dollar topped with 2 coats Hard Candy’s Celebrate the Sequins.
  3. For the stars accent finger, I used Essie’s Midnight Cami and did some star glitter placement using top coat as a glue.
  4. I cut nail art striping tape into 6 pieces per nail and placed it over the white nails diagonally- spacing them as evenly as possible. I painted in the stripes with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Red Carpet and remove the tape before the polish dries.
  5. Top it off with topcoat and viola!

Hope everyone has a Happy Independence Day!!

Throwback Mani: Cut Out Neon Heart

I totally forgot about this cut out neon heart mani I  did over a year ago which I had shared on my Instagram. I was reminded of it when I recently found out that it was featured on HelloGiggles for a Nails Of The Day feature. I guess I must have missed that post because I absolutely love browsing around on Hello Giggles! Anyways, I noticed a person commented and asked there how I achieved this look and that another person replied with a method but that actually wasn’t the way I personally achieved the cutout look.  Read below for details on how I achieved my cutout nails back then!

First, I applied a clear base. I then applied neon pink on the nails that wouldn’t have a cut out heart. I actually drew a heart outline with a nail art brush with the neon yellow polish I used on my thumb and accent finger. I  painted around the neon yellow outline as a guideline with the rest of the neon yellow. I then outlined the heart again with a black nail art pen. I did the rest of the nails by applying hot pink polish and then dotted with hair bobby pin straightened out. I can’t remember the exact colors I used but I am pretty sure I used the neons from the China Glaze Neon collection 2012. Please excuse the horribly dry cuticles and smeared outline. I don’t think I waited long enough before putting on topcoat! I think I should do this design again to compare my cut out skills now as opposed to over a year ago! And a bonus its a cute look appropriate now for summer!

NOTD: Hello Summer w Floss Gloss

Helllllllllo Summer!! So summer has officially begun with some scorching temperatures over here and I wanted to do a hot summer nail design with some of my Floss Gloss polishes!!

nailsofthedayheader

stun and fast lanemani with stun

So I started off with a hot neon gradient using Fast Lane– the neon orange color- and Con Limon over a white base. I then applied Stun on the sides to make a quick geometric effect completed with a Stun accent nail the look is done! The great thing about this gold glitter polish is that the formula is very glitterific and smooth! I only applied 2 coats on my accent nail. . . Look at this macro shot I took- can you just see all the amazing holo gold glitters packed in there?! It’s hard to believe that its only 2 coats but I kid you not!

Here’s another look at my mani in a different light. . .
